Anna Doss Sulanke

About

Anna Doss Sulanke grew up in Rogers Arkansas and received all of her early training under the direction of Peggie Wallis. Miss Peggie, originally a native of New Zealand, was a certified teacher of the Royal Academy of Dance for almost 70 years while dancing and teaching all over the world. When Anna was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, she always said she wanted to be like Miss Peggie and teach ballet. While under the direction of Miss Peggie, Anna completed all major Royal Academy of Dance Examinations with high marks and received the designation of Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance (ARAD). She also received various Gold and Gold with Distinction honors from the American Academy of Ballet Performance Awards. Anna enjoyed performing and was featured at the Rogers Little Theater in various roles including, Aurora in Sleeping Beauty and Sugar Plum fairy in The Nutcracker. After graduating high school Anna attended the University of Oklahoma and danced with the Oklahoma Festival Ballet for 4 years under the direction of Mary Margret Holt. She danced many roles while attending the University, some of her favorites include Balanchine's Serenade and Divertimento No. 15, Ben Stevenson's Sentimantos, Agnes De Mille's Rodeo, and her favorite and most difficult role The Firebird, staged by the founding director of OU's Dance Program and former member of Ballet Russe; Miguel Terekhov. Anna graduated from OU in 2009 with Honors and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Classical Ballet Performance. Upon graduation, Anna joined the Oklahoma City Ballet, and danced with the company for 3 years under the direction of Robert Mills. Anna loved performing each and every ballet, which included Giselle, The Phantom of the Opera, The Wizard of Oz, and The Nutcracker. Anna also taught at various studios during her time in Oklahoma City and was a summer counselor and ballet liaison at both the Summer Wind Youth Ballet at the University of Oklahoma and Quartz Mountain's Summer Arts Institute. Anna was recently certified in Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT.) Anna has always had a passion for teaching. Inspiring a new generation of dancers is what she has aspired to do. She is very excited to teach at the NWA Conservatory of Classical Ballet, in addition to serving as Ballet Mistress for NWA Ballet Theatre, because it allows her to continue to pass on what Miss Peggie has instilled in her; a love for classical ballet. Anna, and her husband, Steven, just welcomed their first baby girl, Elodie Marie, in June!
